Polar F1 Heart Rate Monitor

Progress Log

Began hacking the Polar Heart Rate Monitor. Though it is designed to use a chest strap, the chest strap is equally, if not more, responsive to contact with both hands.

The receiver came apart surprisingly easily. Removal of the screen reveals a series of pins, that subsequently are etched with a clear in/out pattern. What remains is to determine which pins control what on the screen. Since all I need from this receiver is the viewer's pulse, I just need to determine which pins control the Heart icon.

Received test batch of opto-isolators, which are a form of digital relay. By daisy chaining them, 1 for every row of the sculpture (so, in my proposed 10x10x10 sculpture, that'd be 10 sets of 10 daisy chained opto-isolators) I can use 1 pin to disable/enable an entire level.
